User Reviews:
......."I chose the HD-28, as it had more of a "cathedral-like surround-sound" tone than the D-28. The D-28 had more punch and cut-through, but the HD-28 suited my playing style (read: lack thereof) and playing environment better. Neither is "better" than the other, it all just depends what you want/ need from a particular guitar."
......."I just recently purchased a D-28, and I bought it over an HD-28 hanging right next to it, because in comparing those particular 2 guitars the D-28 sounded way better IMO. I don't think I would ever consider buying any Martin model without playing it first... I have heard so many other people who say there is a big variation in sound quality, and I experienced that first-hand, too. It was really too bad - I loved the looks of that HD - there was just no comparison in the sound."
